Yellow-spotted monitors are found throughout the area and across Northern Australia. Monitor lizards are more commonly called Goannas in Australia. (It is thought that they were named 'monitors' because of how they stand on hind legs, appearing to monitor the area.) Adult Yellow-spotted monitors reach about 140 cm in length.

Monitor lizards (commonly called goannas) hunt insects, small mammals, reptiles, and eggs on the ground and seek trees for shelter. Monitor lizards can be found throughout Australia and can grow to be quite large. Pictured below is a juvenile Black-headed Monitor.
